Aave, one of the largest onchain lending protocols, has deployed Aave V4 on the Avalanche blockchain, marking the first time the upgraded platform has expanded beyond Ethereum. The launch, announced Wednesday, is designed to accelerate lending for tokenized real-world assets and institutional finance, according to a statement from the project.
Hub-and-Spoke Architecture
The deployment uses Aave V4's Hub and Spoke architecture, which supports dedicated borrowing markets, shared liquidity infrastructure, and tailored collateral and risk frameworks. Aave said the platform can accommodate tokenized assets such as US Treasuries, money market funds, private credit, and corporate bonds. One of the first planned markets on Avalanche will be a dedicated credit market for tokenized assets, allowing institutions to borrow against tokenized collateral while tapping into Aave's shared liquidity network.
Strategic Expansion
Aave V3 already had a significant presence on Avalanche, facilitating billions of dollars in liquidity. Aave Labs founder Stani Kulechov said Avalanche's combination of a mature Aave ecosystem and growing tokenization activity made it the ideal first destination for expansion. "Aave V4 was designed to enable new credit markets at internet scale," Kulechov commented. "Avalanche is a natural destination for the first expansion of Aave V4 beyond Ethereum because it combines a mature Aave lending market with a rapidly growing ecosystem for tokenized assets."
Institutional Focus
Ava Labs President John Wu said the integration advances the use of tokenized assets by giving institutions borrowing and liquidity infrastructure comparable to traditional financial markets. "The next phase of tokenization is about putting assets to work, not just bringing them onchain," Wu stated. "Aave V4 on Avalanche is an important step toward making that a reality and advancing the shift to a more efficient, onchain financial system." The launch serves as a blueprint for Aave V4's multichain expansion strategy, with future deployments tailored to the strengths of individual blockchain ecosystems.
