Bithumb, South Korea's second-largest crypto exchange, has listed Canton (CC) in its Korean won market, opening a blockchain backed by Goldman Sachs, DTCC, and Citadel Securities to retail traders. The CC/KRW pair started trading at 14:00 KST on Tuesday, with deposits opening two hours prior. Canton Coin was trading at $0.1544 with a $6.0 billion market cap, up 1.2% in the 24 hours after the announcement.
Institutional Pedigree
Canton Network is a privacy-focused blockchain developed by Digital Asset for tokenizing, trading, and settling real-world assets. Its investors include BNP Paribas and Tradeweb, while Goldman Sachs, Citadel Securities, and DTCC are founding institutional users. Digital Asset recently closed a $355 million funding round led by a16z crypto. The network has also added Visa and stablecoin issuer Brale for SBC stablecoin settlement trials, and was among eight blockchains included in Mastercard's card-settlement network expansion in June.
Korean Retail Access
The KRW listing shifts Canton's distribution channel from institutional-only to retail. Previously, the network targeted regulated financial institutions for private workflows like collateral management and repo financing. The Korean won pair on Bithumb allows retail investors who cannot access dollar-denominated pairs or become validators to trade CC. South Korea has one of the largest per-capita crypto retail markets globally. Bithumb often lists institutional-grade assets as they gain mainstream attention. CC was already available on Kraken, Bybit, OKX, and KuCoin in USDT pairs. Canton Network has not commented on the Bithumb listing.
