SAB Biotherapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:SABS) has received a research grant from Breakthrough T1D to support a clinical trial of its experimental therapy SAB-142 in patients with Stage 3 type 1 diabetes. The grant was awarded to Dr. Michael J. Haller at the University of Florida for the PRISE-hATG study, which will assess the drug's ability to preserve beta cell function and modulate immune responses in individuals diagnosed within the past 100 days to two years.

Grant and Trial Details

Breakthrough T1D, a leading type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization, announced the grant on July 7. The study focuses on patients with residual beta cell activity after the initial 100 days following a Stage 3 diagnosis. SAB-142 is a human polyclonal immunotherapeutic antibody designed to alter the course of the disease, potentially offering a disease-modifying treatment for autoimmune type 1 diabetes.

Analyst Outlook and Stock Potential

On June 24, Barclays analyst Eliana Merle initiated coverage of SABS with an Overweight rating and a $13 price target, implying over 240% upside from current levels. Merle highlighted SAB-142 as a lucrative opportunity for a disease-altering cure and identified the upcoming Phase 2b data, expected in the second half of 2027, as a key catalyst. SAB Biotherapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing human polyclonal antibodies, with SAB-142 as its lead candidate.
