Samsung has announced that Amazon Music will now come pre-installed on its Galaxy phones and tablets, joining a growing list of default apps that includes Facebook, Instagram, OneDrive, LinkedIn, and Spotify. The move, revealed just ahead of the company's Galaxy Unpacked event, may frustrate users who prefer a clean device out of the box. To soften the blow, Samsung and Amazon are offering a free three-month subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited for anyone who downloads the app from the Samsung Galaxy Store within the next 12 months.
Bloatware concerns
Pre-installed apps, often called bloatware, can consume over 1GB of storage on Galaxy devices. While many of these apps can be uninstalled after setup, some—like Facebook—can only be disabled, meaning residual files remain. This contrasts with Apple's iPhone approach, which avoids third-party pre-installed software. The addition of Amazon Music may therefore be seen as a step backward for user experience.
Free trial details
Users interested in the Amazon Music Unlimited offer must sign up via the Samsung Galaxy Store. The subscription auto-renews at $13 per month after the trial period unless canceled. The promotion is available for the next 12 months, giving Galaxy owners ample time to decide if the service is worth the storage space.
