SBI Global Asset Management and Singapore-based digital asset exchange DigiFT have launched a tokenized Japan equity strategy on the Solana blockchain. The token, named "SBI Japan High Dividend Equity Strategy Token (JX)," began trading on July 14, with the official announcement made on July 15. The product is designed to provide qualified and institutional investors with on-chain access to a high-dividend Japanese stock fund strategy.
Token structure and availability
JX is based on the investment strategy of the "SBI Japan High Dividend Equity Fund," managed by SBI Asset Management, a subsidiary of SBI Global Asset Management. Rather than tokenizing the existing public fund directly, the issuer created a new private fund using the same master fund and tokenized it through DigiFT's platform. SBI Global Asset Management claims this is the world's first tokenization of a Japanese equity fund on a public blockchain.
The token is issued on Solana and offered exclusively to accredited and institutional investors under Singapore's Securities and Futures Act. There has been no announcement regarding availability in Japan. Notably, JX is structured as a growth-type strategy with no distributions — neither the fund nor the token pays dividends.
24/7 access and stablecoin integration
Investors can access the Japanese equity fund around the clock, 365 days a year, through DigiFT. Purchases and settlements are supported using the USDC stablecoin, with plans to later add JPYSC, a yen-denominated stablecoin to be issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank. The underlying "SBI Japan High Dividend Equity Fund" was established in December 2023 and has grown to approximately 220 billion yen in net assets.
Regulatory and future plans
DigiFT holds a Recognised Market Operator (RMO) license and a Capital Markets Services (CMS) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The joint venture SBI Onchain, established in November last year by SBI Group and DigiFT, is responsible for planning, operating, and coordinating the project. Looking ahead, SBI Global Asset Management plans to integrate decentralized finance (DeFi) lending functionality from the Morpho protocol and risk management technology from Gauntlet. The goal is to offer lending backed by real-world asset (RWA) tokens collateralized by Japanese equities, as well as on-chain asset management services.
