It uses a different address format and is not backward compatible with older non-SegWit addresses. Other SegWit implementations, such as P2SH-SegWit, use a different address format and are backward compatible with non-SegWit addresses. Native SegWit is considered to be the most advanced and efficient form of SegWit implementation in the world of digital currencies.
