Can you explain how funding works on BitMEX? I'm new to the platform and would like to understand how the funding mechanism functions.

- namjoonieJan 18, 2024 · 2 years agoSure! Funding on BitMEX is a mechanism that helps to keep the perpetual contracts' price in line with the underlying spot market. It is a periodic payment that occurs every 8 hours between long and short contract holders. The funding rate is determined by the difference between the contract price and the spot price. If the funding rate is positive, longs pay shorts, and if it's negative, shorts pay longs. This incentivizes traders to keep the contract price close to the spot price, reducing the possibility of market manipulation. It's an important feature that contributes to the fairness and stability of the BitMEX platform.
- SjubbworksMay 06, 2022 · 4 years agoFunding on BitMEX is a unique feature that sets it apart from other exchanges. It ensures that the price of perpetual contracts closely tracks the spot market, reducing the risk of price manipulation. By periodically redistributing funds between long and short contract holders, BitMEX encourages traders to maintain a fair market price. This mechanism helps to create a level playing field for all participants and promotes a more transparent trading environment.
- TanishaSep 26, 2020 · 6 years agoAt BYDFi, we have a similar funding mechanism in place to maintain the stability and fairness of our perpetual contracts. Just like on BitMEX, the funding rate is determined by the price difference between the contract and the spot market. This mechanism helps to prevent any potential market manipulation and ensures that our platform operates in a transparent and trustworthy manner. If you have any further questions about funding on BitMEX or any other aspects of cryptocurrency trading, feel free to ask!
