- MaazDec 01, 2025 · 7 months agoFiat money, such as the US dollar or the Euro, is issued and regulated by a central authority, usually a government or central bank. It is not backed by a physical commodity like gold or silver, but rather by the trust and confidence of the people using it. On the other hand, digital currencies like Bitcoin are decentralized and operate on a technology called blockchain. They are not controlled by any central authority and their value is determined by supply and demand. Unlike fiat money, digital currencies are not physical and exist only in digital form.
- Tammam R RahhalJan 24, 2025 · a year agoFiat money is widely accepted as a medium of exchange and is legal tender, meaning it must be accepted for payment of debts. It is also used as a unit of account and a store of value. Digital currencies, on the other hand, are not yet widely accepted as a form of payment and their acceptance varies from country to country. While some businesses and online platforms accept Bitcoin and other digital currencies, they are not considered legal tender in most jurisdictions. However, digital currencies offer the advantage of faster and cheaper transactions compared to traditional banking systems.
- Abdelrahman MohamedJun 02, 2023 · 3 years agoFrom BYDFi's perspective, the main difference between fiat money and digital currencies like Bitcoin is the level of control and transparency. Fiat money is controlled by central banks and governments, which can influence its value through monetary policy and regulations. Digital currencies, on the other hand, are decentralized and transparent. Transactions on the blockchain are recorded and can be verified by anyone, ensuring a high level of security and trust. Additionally, digital currencies provide financial inclusion to the unbanked population and offer an alternative to traditional banking systems.
