- Nhi NguyenOct 28, 2020 · 6 years agoSure, 'time in force' refers to the duration for which an order remains active in the market. It determines how long your order will stay open and attempt to execute before it expires. The most common types of 'time in force' options are 'Good Till Cancelled' (GTC), 'Immediate Or Cancel' (IOC), and 'Fill Or Kill' (FOK). GTC orders remain active until they are manually cancelled, while IOC orders are executed immediately or canceled if they cannot be filled completely. FOK orders require the entire order to be filled immediately, otherwise, it is canceled. The choice of 'time in force' can impact your trading strategy and the likelihood of your order being executed.
- Lindsey BoyerDec 16, 2024 · a year agoWhen it comes to 'time in force', it's all about balancing your trading goals and market conditions. If you have a long-term investment strategy, a GTC order might be suitable as it allows your order to stay open until it is filled or manually canceled. On the other hand, if you're looking for quick trades and immediate execution, IOC or FOK orders can be more appropriate. It's important to consider factors such as liquidity, volatility, and your risk tolerance when choosing the right 'time in force' option for your trades.
