What happens to a call option on a cryptocurrency when it expires?
Can you explain what happens to a call option on a cryptocurrency when it reaches its expiration date? I'm curious to know if the option holder receives any value or if it simply becomes worthless.

The option becomes worthless and the holder loses the premium paid for the option. It's important to note that the option holder has the right, but not the obligation, to buy the underlying cryptocurrency at the strike price before the expiration date. If the price of the cryptocurrency is below the strike price at expiration, it would not make sense for the option holder to exercise the option, as they could buy the cryptocurrency at a lower price on the open market.
- Claes NorreenNov 16, 2020 · 5 years agoSo, what happens when a call option on a cryptocurrency expires? Well, let me break it down for you. When the expiration date arrives, the option holder has a decision to make. If the price of the cryptocurrency is above the strike price, they can choose to exercise the option and buy the cryptocurrency at the strike price. However, if the price is below the strike price, it doesn't make financial sense to exercise the option. In this case, the option simply expires and the holder loses the premium paid for the option. It's always important to carefully consider the expiration date and the current market conditions before purchasing a call option.
