It's a consensus algorithm they're working on to replace the old proof-of-work system. Basically, they want to make Ethereum faster, greener, and more secure. Instead of miners competing to solve puzzles, validators are chosen based on how much cryptocurrency they have and are willing to put at stake. It's like a popularity contest, but with money. If Casper works as planned, Ethereum could become a force to be reckoned with in the cryptocurrency market. And who knows, other cryptocurrencies might jump on the Casper bandwagon too!
