Therefore, the SEC did not have a direct role in regulating the cryptocurrency industry during that time. However, the lack of regulatory oversight during the Great Depression allowed for the proliferation of various fraudulent schemes and Ponzi schemes, which can be seen as precursors to some of the issues faced by the cryptocurrency industry today.
