- irumva Arsene VazquezFeb 24, 2021 · 5 years agoThe validation mechanism used to mine Ethereum is called Proof of Stake (PoS). Instead of relying on the traditional Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism used by Bitcoin, Ethereum is transitioning to a PoS model. In PoS, validators are chosen to create new blocks and validate transactions based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to 'stake' as collateral. This means that the more Ethereum a validator holds, the more likely they are to be chosen to create a new block. PoS is considered to be more energy-efficient and secure compared to PoW, as it eliminates the need for miners to solve complex mathematical puzzles.
- Nick CheneyApr 04, 2021 · 5 years agoTo mine Ethereum, the validation mechanism used is Proof of Stake (PoS). This means that instead of miners competing to solve mathematical puzzles like in Bitcoin, validators are chosen based on the amount of Ethereum they hold and are willing to 'stake'. The more Ethereum a validator holds, the higher their chances of being selected to create a new block. This mechanism is designed to be more energy-efficient and secure compared to Proof of Work (PoW), which is used by Bitcoin. By transitioning to PoS, Ethereum aims to reduce its carbon footprint and improve scalability.

This transition to PoS is part of Ethereum's long-term plan to improve scalability and sustainability.

This transition to PoS is expected to make Ethereum more energy-efficient and secure, as it eliminates the need for miners to solve complex mathematical puzzles. It also aligns with the broader trend in the cryptocurrency industry towards more sustainable and scalable consensus mechanisms.
