  The first cryptocurrency exchange was founded by Jed McCaleb in 2010. McCaleb is a well-known figure in the cryptocurrency community and was also involved in the creation of Ripple. He founded the exchange, called Mt. Gox, as a platform for trading Magic: The Gathering Online cards, but it later transitioned to become the first Bitcoin exchange. Mt. Gox faced several security issues and ultimately filed for bankruptcy in 2014.
